rookie: noun • an inexperienced person new to a situation or activity
Being a parent comes with constant change that you have to respond to on the go, whether or not you know what the heck you are doing. There are no dress rehearsals, it all happens in real time. You will constantly have to wing it, fumble from time to time, and most definitely second guess some of your decisions. Whether you are a first time parent or a seasoned one, you are still going to encounter new situations and for that reason we believe we will always be rookies.
We started The Rookie Parent Society in 2015 after we had our daughters. We are two sisters based in Johannesburg married with kids. Before our babies, we lived life to the maximum with such spontaneity and vigor. Our social lives were booming along with our careers and we weren’t quite prepared for the reality of parenting.
This blog is for the modern day parent looking for a full and balanced life that exists in and outside of parenting. It is about discovering the secret to balance and zen in the manic chaos that is parenting,
if there is such a thing. It is about falling in love with your stretch marks (if you are a mom) and calling a spade a spade when your sex life just isn’t the same after baby. It is about finding ways to still make it to Friday night beers with your mates to get that moment of independence and adult connection that you once had.
We share our experiences on this blog along with contributions from others who may or may not be writers. We would love to hear about your parenting moments, your fears, your experiences and comments so feel free to contact us and we will gladly share your story with our readers.
We hope to inspire you, make you laugh, and feel better about yourself. Parenting isn’t about being perfect, adulting isn’t straight forward but there is wine and friendship to make us feel okay about it. So grab a glass of wine and enjoy browsing through our blog.
Yours in honesty and real talk,
Ida and Pam
